Description
Neufchâtel is a legendary soft Norman cheese made from raw cow’s milk, produced according to ancient traditions near Neufchâtel-en-Bray.
The cheese is made from the milk of Norman cows, giving it a rich, full flavour and a delicate creamy texture with a velvety white rind. The special charm of this cheese is its heart shape, the history of which dates back to the Hundred Years’ War. When English soldiers occupied Normandy, local farmers began moulding the cheese into heart shapes instead of the usual cylinders or blocks. These “hearts” were given to the soldiers as a sign of their love and affection.
Neufchâtel will be the highlight of any cheese board and a perfect gift with a story. It pairs ideally with classic Norman cider, fresh baguette, or light red wines
