Description
Epoisses Berthaut is the renowned “king of cheeses” and a gastronomic pride of Burgundy (PDO).
This cheese from the Berthaut creamery is considered the global gold standard: it was Robert Berthaut who revived this unique recipe in 1956. Made from pasteurized cow’s milk, its rind is repeatedly washed during maturation with a brine mixed with Marc de Bourgogne brandy.
This process gives the cheese its signature bright orange colour and a powerful, complex aroma. Beneath the rind lies an incredibly soft, buttery, and almost runny paste with a deep creamy flavour. The half-portion format is perfect for a tasting or an exquisite cheese board for two.
Epoisses is best paired with late-harvest white wines, aged red Burgundies, or strong Belgian ales
